How Do You Promote A Blog?

This isn't one of the lessons I've learned....YET!

I know a lot of readers of Mama Needs a Book Contract are well-versed in the ways of blogism. Some make their living almost entirely by blogging! They have crazy-fingers, typing 900 wpm and posting and clicking and going wild. Their blogs receive so much traffic the Internet had to put in stoplights!

So how do you do it? How can we get this Mama up off the couch?

And here's another question: how can we do it without being a nuisance to friends, family, and Internet acquaintances?

Or is being a nuisance the big key to success? How do you do it?

Thanks!

Oh, and one more question...

What if I promise to post a picture of myself on a bad hair day? Will that drive traffic?

Or be a traffic ACCIDENT?

:D

LOL....
The long and short of it is if its interesting, and empathic, all you need to do is drive traffic.
Driving traffic, on the other hand, isn't all that easy. I use blogcarnivals (http://blogcarnival.com - plus I did a vid on it on Youtube) and commenting on blogs that are of the same interest - writing articles that I cross post on my blogs and offer as free reprints - writing articles for sites in the same niche as the blog - frequenting forums - frequenting other blogs. Keeping my profile up where I can.

As for the other question - depends if its relevant to your niche ;)
Gimmie a shout if you need a hand with anything - you've got my email :)

One way is to leave comments on other blogs and hope that someone will read your comments and want to go to your blog. Like I'm doing now...so click on my blog and go see me too!

I think you have to be consistent in terms of content and frequency. You have to have a "product".

I think maybe cross posting to your own blog to 'borrow' your own traffic.

Getting involved in other forums and advertising on requested days.

Um... posting controversial stuff?

So, is a bad hair day pic controversial?

Kiddin.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Regular content that is of interest to regular readers is one key to a successful blog.

Blog posts that contain links, as well as other reciprocal links, drive the search engines, so that's always a good thing.

Put the link to the blog in your email signature and use it, every time.

Participate in online groups, and have the blog address in your signature.
